The History

Henchman Ltd. was founded in 1994 after Tom Kitching, Managing Director, designed for his GCSE Craft Design and Technology project, a safe hedge cutting platform, as an alternative to a ladder.

After comprehensive market research, it was concluded that there were no safe hedge cutting platforms in the market, and so the Henchman hedge cutting platform (the horticultural equivalent to the Podium Step) was born.

Since then Henchman Ltd. has remained the dominant European supplier of Podium steps to horticultural and grounds maintenance markets and has sold over 20,000.

Key Staff

Tom Kitching - Managing Director

Post university Tom gained a qualification in teaching to allow him the long sought after opportunity to travel and work abroad. Six years after designing the first Henchman, Tom Kitching joined his father Mike in the running of the business. In 2006, having gained experience in all aspects of the business, Tom became the Managing Director, allowing Mike to take the role of non-executive chairman.

Al Jameson - Product Manager

Al's degree in sports science led him to work in the leisure industry until the realisation of long hours and poor pay motivated him to seek experience elsewhere. In 2002 Al began working with Henchman.  Al has gained experience in virtually every aspect of Henchman's business from sales to shows management  and has managed product supply since 2005.
